The act
of philanthropy is a spiritual act, an expression of caring for one's
fellow human beings. It is a belief in the future and that the future
can be good. It is investing in that future. It is helping to make
the dream come true.-- Arthur Frantzreb
TEMPO began its
philanthropy efforts in 1990 when it had excess funds after sponsoring
a successful conference, and felt it was important to give back to
the community and aid computer literacy efforts. In our initial project,
TEMPO helped establish a computer lab for a children's home and received
donations of computers, equipment and training time. In 1992, TEMPO
received an award and nationwide recognition for this achievement
and other philanthropy efforts from Elliott Masie and the Computer
Training and Support Conference. Since then, TEMPO has continued to
support its philanthropic efforts through an annual donation of $1000
to a non-profit organization that will use the funds for technology-related
purposes. Organizations are nominated by TEMPO members. In some years,
multiple recipients have been nominated and given awards toward technology-related
projects.
TEMPO funds its
Philanthropy donations through activities such as the Silent Auction
and 50/50 Raffles held every meeting. We encourage your support and
participation in this worthwhile project.
